THE ROCK PROJECT

How do you think the rock project affects the students mental health positively?

The Rock Project caters to everyone. I was bullied as a kid and was quite insecure as a child but discovering a love and passion for music really made me come out of my shell and become more confident and this is something we see with the students too. It's great to see them start to realise their importance and that fact they have a talent to be really happy about.

What is your favourite thing about working with the rock project?

My favourite thing about The Rock Project is the community vibe. Everyone gets on so well and we've built a really great and reliable team. The students respond well to this and it's something we all look forward to doing. To me it isn't a job. It's a passion!

What is the Rock Project all about?

The rock project is a music school for children aged 7 to 18. We teach them the essentials on getting to grips with their chosen instruments and how to perform on stage.

What is it like to teach, how does this differentiate from playing?

Teaching, much like performing is very rewarding. It's really nice to be able to pass on the advice and experience we've all picked up along the way as professional musicians. I wish I had someone teaching me this stuff when I was their age!

How does it feel to see students meeting their own personal goals and achievements?

Seeing the students meeting their goals is so fulfilling and rewarding to me. I've been teaching my group for just over a year and it's incredible how far they've come. In a totally modest way, it makes me feel REALLY good about myself too.
