GENDER ROLES

What makes music so important to you?
Music is important to us because it’s fun. We get to hang out with each other and create. What more can you really ask for.
How did 'Gender Roles' become what the band is now?

We’ve just played relentlessly for the last two and a half years and written music. I couldn’t tell you where we are now, but we’re having a lot of fun meeting so many people and playing in so many places with such a great response.
What has been your biggest achievement ?
We’ve done so much as a band that we’re proud of that it’s really difficult to think of our ‘biggest achievement’ Recently we’ve done a lot of things we had never considered. We went to America last October as our first set of shows outside the UK, playing with Jamie Lenon throughout February, putting out our new EP on a 7”… it’s all been great so our biggest achievement is everything so far.

How does music make you feel / has it ever been a therapy to you guys?

Music makes us feel great because it’s great. You get to play to people that love what you do whilst having the most fun you can think of. In terms of therapy, I guess you can say that, we’re quite “energetic” as a band live so it’s great to get up there, play hard and shout loads. You can’t really do that in an office can you?
How was writing your new EP / Where did you get your inspriation from?

Writing the EP was great. We returned to Emeline studios with Ian Sadler, where we had recorded our first EP. It felt comfortable, in the sense of not having to go through the whole introduction/polite stage of meeting someone new in their place. It also felt more focused as we could get in, knew where we ere, smash it out and concentrate.
As it's mental health awareness week, what would your life motto be for happiness?

Always hang out with your mates.
