Has music ever been your therapy / how does it make you feel?

Music is the best therapy ever. I’m sure I’ve saved thousands in counselling by being able to go crazy on stage or put my feelings into music. I know it’s the oldest cliche ever but it really is insane what a great performance or day of writing can do for your state of mind. But I guess it can go the other way- when something doesn’t come together quick I can get really frustrated and angry and after very very long tours my mental health does start to slip a bit. It’s worth it for the highs though.
Where does your inspiration for your music come from ?
I take inspiration from so much. From my own life, writing about my friends or families experiences , a great story from a movie or fucking hell, just what’s going on in the world at the moment is mental- there’s so much scope and so much happening all at once. The world is a fucked up but super inspiring place to be right now. There’s horror and beauty everywhere. I can’t wait to write about it all.
What was it like to play latitude - did it differ from other festivals?

I’ve always wanted to play Latitude, this year was my fourth time there but first time playing so it felt really special, definitely one to cross off the bucket list. I loved the stage in the woods at latitude as well. It’s the best setting for a festival ever.

What makes music so important to you?

Music is important to me because it’s all I had at so many points in my life. How some music has made me feel and shaped me as a person... my biggest dream in life is to create something that gives to someone else what some music gave to me at certain times. Happy or sad or lonely or in love- there’s been a soundtrack to most of it. I’m such an emotional person too- if I didn’t have writing and performance as some kind of release I’m sure I’d be a crazy ball of rage. I get so much freedom doing what I do.
When did you realize singing was your passion?

Singing really became a passion for me in my late teens. I was obsessed with finding what I could do- the highs and the lows and creating vibrato, dynamics.... Just listening to as many different kind of singers and styles as I could, mimicking my favourite's and then trying to create my own unique style... I’m still finding different voices now. My range is getting deeper as I’m getting older- that’s interesting. I can’t wait to hear where it’s going to go.
