CASWELL
How does music make you feel / has it ever been a therapy?

Writing and performing music is 100% a therapy. In every day life I actually do struggle with understanding how I feel and expressing difficult emotions and I have done since I was a child, so music seems to be my way of doing it. Which seems bizarre as writing music can be one of the most vulnerable processes in the world.
What were your emotions when releasing lie to me?

Lie To Me was really me getting to grips with adulthood, and reminiscing on this blissful childhood ignorance. I wanted to be that kid I was when I would read ‘Going on a bear hunt’ and stories always had resolutions. That book was where I got inspiration for some of the lyrics.
What was it like to play Latitude?

It was insane! Biggest thing I’ve ever done- the most nerve racking and also the most rewarding. Seeing complete strangers know lyrics to your EP tracks is mad!
What makes music so important to you?

It’s ability to touch everyone no matter who you are. To make us feel, connect us and free us.

What is it like as a women in the music industry?

The music industry is heavily male dominated, as are a lot of industry’s still, but I find there is still a noticeable lack of females not only behind the scenes in studios and live sound, but also on gig and festival line ups and as instrumentalists. I think it has links with confidence and thinking someone else knows better, it’s always been something that’s held me back personally.
This is Caswell's most recent release, 'Lie to Me' which has been featured on ITV's This Morning.
