GRACE SAVAGE
Where did your idea of mixing music / beat boxing together ?
It just happened organically. Started singing in my solo beatboxing routine, then bought a loop station and started to sing over my beats and then eventually started writing songs with producers in studios and use the beatboxing as an additional live element to my sets.
What makes music so important to you?

From a personal perspective - songwriting is a kind of therapy for me. Helps me get my thoughts down and out. Beatboxing, performing live and making people happy/feel things is a great feeling - makes me feel like I’m being a useful human being in society.
What is it like winning competitions / performing as a female beatboxer ?

Winning competitions is great! Nice when you’re hard work pays off check out my Ted Talk where I discuss being a female Beatboxer in more depth.

What made you start beatboxing / when did you realise you could ?

I learned a lot from Bellatrix - we grew up together in a small town in Devon. I also saw Rahzel perform when I was 14 and it blew my mind.
Has music ever been your therapy / how does it make you feel?
It’s always healthy to talk about and or write down your feelings, it helps you figure them out and get to the core of things you’ve been ignoring and not dealing with so yes it is definitely therapeutic to create. As a listener, goes without saying, music is incredibly powerful.
