SAM EAGLE

What was it like to perform at Liverpool's Sound City 2018?

Sound city was amazing last year. It was our first proper festival show and there were loads of acts there that we love so it was a great experience just as festival goers let alone playing. We’re back this year too which is very exciting. Its a great festival.

How does music make you feel and has it ever been your therapy?

Generally if I’m playing music I find it just amplifies whatever I’m feeling at the time. So if I’m angry, sad, happy or freaky, I just find it’s more intense when I’m playing music. It can be therapeutic though, and is often quite cathartic. My whole EP is kinda about getting through tougher times by making the EP itself, so yeah I’d say it can be for sure.

How does playing festivals compare to pub gigs?

Festivals are often more chill whereas venue shows can be more intense. I don’t really have a preference really, I just love playing live anywhere. I do love a chill situation though and when we played Latitude last year for BBC Introducing on the sunset slot, that was one of my favourite gigs we’ve done for sure.

What was playing The Great Escape Festival 2018 like?

Ah man it was such a good weekend, and we’re heading back again this year which I can’t wait for. The weather was great which helped, but yeah it’s pretty amazing thing to be a part of as an upcoming musician. There were some amazing acts and we made a lot of good friends out there. Highly recommend to a friend.

What were your emotions surrounding the release of your EP, 'Coping Mechanisms'?

The EP is the work of the last year of me just finding my style and working out my sound really, so it’s quite an interesting release for me. I tried to get across a good range of emotions in there, but generally I think it’s about working things out in life generally with people, relationships and more difficult times. So I guess it’s generally got a quite reflective vibe to it.

What makes music so important to you and why?

It’s important to me because I simply just love making music. It’s what I enjoy more than anything else, so is what I want to do with my life. It’s a pretty fun thing to do, and every day is different which is what I like.
